Opening the Veil on the IE Domain Registry
Date: Wednesday May 07 2003, @10:28AM
Topic: Country-Code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs)

Antoin O Lachtnain writes "University College, Dublin is the body responsible for operating the IE Domain Registry. However, the registry is run in a very untransparent fashion, and has been covered before on ICANNwatch. I am using the Irish Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to try to find out more about the IE Domain Registry's activities. Last week, I received a decision in my favour from the Information Commissioner, who arbitrates FOIA disputes in Ireland."

"According to the decision letter, which is available in full, the IE Domain Registry believes that a 'media campaign' was directed against them.

The registry or UCD could now stop the release by taking an action in the Irish High Court, but it would have to be on the basis of a point of law, and would be unlikely to succeed. See the weblog for the full story."
