NZers Voting On geek.nz
Date: Sunday February 23 2003, @01:11PM
Topic: Country-Code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs)

dpf writes "Voting has started on the merits of creating geek.nz as the 12th 2LD for .nz. InternetNZ, which manages .nz, encourages user participation and does not have a problem with online democracy so any NZer (a person with a postal address in NZ) who has an e-mail address can vote on the geek.nz application."

"If the vote fails to get 70% in favour and at least 200 quorum, the application fails. If it passes then it goes to a formal submission process with interim and then final decisions from InternetNZ Council.

Previous votes for new 2LDs such as maori.nz have had as many as 1,600 votes cast. The proponents list over 250 self proclaimed geeks as supporting the application.

The vote closes at 2359 NZDT on 4 March 2003 and results should be known by the end of that week."
