ICANN announced yesterday the signing of its "first formal agreement with a country code TLD operator," transferring responsibility for the .au domain to auDa (the chosen acronym for '.au Domain Administration, Limited'). No surpise here; an announcement at the end of August indicated that this move would soon be forthcoming. But it's a watershed moment, nonetheless -- and not for the best of reasons, as Michael Froomkin pointed out a while ago.
