Waiting for my .info domain to be usable

lindholm writes "As I sit here, twiddling my thumbs, waiting for my .info domain to show up under my VeriSign account so I can actually start to use it, I am wondering just what the problem is, how many people are affected by the problem and is it just VersiSign or are other (all?) registrars having the same problem.

The problem as I have been informed by VeriSign is that VeriSign is unable to make its database exchange the appropriate information with the Afilias database."

The latest guestimate as to when the issue will be resolved is now October 23. And until that happens, there is no way for me to configure the DNS servers for my domain so it can be used.

Does anyone know what the problem really is? And how it can take three weeks to be resolved???

What makes it really annoying is that real-time registrants can use their .info domains (or so I've been told) whereas the pre-registed domains appear to be in limbo.

Three of my .INFO domains registered through VeriSign work perfectly and have submitted name server updates, etc with no problems.

However, the other five .INFO domains I registered through VeriSign are still lost in "space" so to speak like those of many other people. They are aware of my difficulty and have my problem in their "queue" and even issued me a case number - doesn't solves my problem, but at least I'm in their support system so I don't have to explain the entire problem again.

I was told about three days the other five would be in my account and working...week later and still waiting. I'm not really at all worried though about them not working...all my .INFO domains are just redirectors anyways. But still...

I have the same problem with NS. I called them on Monday, they took my DNS information and said that they would make the change. They said it could take up to 5 days. Better than nothing!

After some early glitches, the .info domains I registered through register.com and GoDaddy are functional and I can change the name servers online.

>>And yes, I am a biased Image Online Design supporter, very happy to point out that IOD has had this stuff working for 5 years now. But facts are facts, regardless of my bias.<<

Can you show me some active .web pages??? I think there are not more than 20 active.

I use PacificRoot DNS, so there should be no problemnic.PRO will be back online soon with FREE sub-domains. Dowload the FREE plug-in at

The problem with the registrar certification tests is that they only test interoperability, not business capacity.

In other words, the certifications test to ensure that the registrar *can* send certain commands to the registry, not that they *will*.

On the one hand, this doesn't do a lot to make sure that consumers get a fair shake. On the other, competition will take care of this anyways. Those registrars that come out of the gate with working features will continue to grow and acquire new customers. Those that don't will get saddled with a reputation for not being up to speed and their revenues will suffer accordingly.

Just my $0.02.

"I have used IOD's .web services for several reasons."

What services?
To register a domain without any visibility?
Do you know some active .web domains?

You gave them money.... and what did you get?...a product that no one (can) use (there are no active sites)

You would better register some space on the moon! ;-) .... or new.net ;-) --> 50% visibility!

Try above URL to check if you can see the whole Internet! Enjoy.
