EU goes against flow in quest for new Web domains

Topic: .eu and Europe too

kodo writes "Yahoo! is running a Reuters story by Lisa Jucca about the European Commission's plans to move forward with "Dot EU"."

The European Commission, said its plans for the new domain were proceeding according to schedule even though the .eu issue did not feature prominently at the ICANN meeting in Stockholm. The story is a bit light on facts and makes some technical errors. But, this proposal is not going to happen very fast. They are still awaiting the scrutiny of the European Parliament (which will vote on the it in July). Then, after that, the proposal will have to be approved by all of the member states.

There was also talk of the ASEAN countries (Association of South East Asian Nations - Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei) also proposing an ASEAN TLD in Stockholm - any word on this?
