VeriSign Requests We Stop Using Their Logo
Date: Wednesday May 23 2001, @05:54AM
Topic: ICANNWatch.org

At the request of VeriSign's lawyer, Phil Sbarbaro, I've removed VeriSign's logo from our site. Regardless of whether it was fair use or not, it's not our job here to upset people over trivialities; we'll save that for things that matter. Readers are invited to submit amusing gif's that might replace the temporary logo currently in use.

I don't think it's a trivial issue at all. I think that if you are entitled to use it because of fair use, you should. If not, then you should remove it. I don't imagine there is a newspaper in this country that would have agreed with the position that you've taken. It appears to me that you might be intimidated by the threat of some legal action, or are trying to preserve some kind of access to the Verisign legal counsel. Just my thoughts.

I am feeling really creative about this... maybe a "Sclavos-dressed-as-the-devil" GIF would be better?

Can "fair use" be made of the MONOPOLY man with the fistful of $$?
