Re: Truth, lies and registry/registrar responsibil
    by Anonymous on Wednesday January 01 2003, @03:44AM (#10800)
John Wong of Domain Registration Services, Inc. d/b/a dotEarth.com is a another Afilias Director who I have cast a shrewd eye on and feel some discomfort about.

In the .biz2B names release his "The Website Inc" applied for hundreds of .biz names (supposedly meant for bona fide business use not for re-sale for profit)... they gained 226 .biz names in the .biz2B.

Apart from the scepticism I feel about obtaining that number of names in the first place, what was also problematical to me was that Wong's Website Inc group were the only applicants to gain .biz2B names through Dot Earth... in other words, it looks like Dot Earth effectively traded for itself, and locked out the general public...

This does not add much to my trust that the Afilias Board has a track record of putting consumers' interests before its own.

Mr Wong's The Website Inc was registered by Domain Registration Sercices as can be seen here:

    Domain Name: THEWEBSITEINC.COM
    Registrar: DOMAIN REGISTRATION SERVICES

I'm sorry, but in my opinion this demonstates a disregard for the Agreement and processes set up for .biz limiting it to registrations for specific business purposes only.

If this is seen as disregard for process and Agreements, it would add further to my concern that the Afilias Board has insufficient respect for Agreements designed to protect the consumer, and designed to safeguard a process.

Setting aside ICANN's view that registrars should not stockpile domain names for re-sale (a pretty important principle if the DNS is to be fairly administered) I am left feeling suspicious and untrusting about yet another Afilias Director.

    Richard Henderson
