If you recollect back to the introduction of .biz, the calsh with Leah Gallegos's alternate .biz registry gave ICANN a headache (ICANN was forced to tell congress that it was unaware of the unofficial registry). A conflict with new.net could be much worse causing confusion and eventually leading to a nasty legal battle. ICANN would rather avoid this and wait for new.net to go bankrupt on its own.
Best,
Anion

New.shit doesn't "doctor" their stats, they just don't release the stats.
The 150 million "enabled" users is not a statistic, it is only a huge guestimate that can neither be proven nor disproven.
New.shit is run by assholes, and shouldn't be allowed to become a USG root registry.
Any company that relies on KaZaa to reel in the suckers and bundle New.shit's adware download to unwitting music thieves should be avoided.
Just my opinion.
