I sell books online. I've done so since long before the web existed (not by spamming, I hasten to add). Would I pay $100 for a decent .book or .books name? Yer damn rights I would. Oh sure, I could register myname-books.com, except some speculator owns it and wants $3000 for it. It doesn't matter a hill of beans anyway, I can be at hostingfordummies.com/fnord/isawanker/books/ and I lose almost zero customers just because I don't have a sexy name, most folks find me by clicking on a link and I can call something bla-bla and have it point anywhere, that's how this internet thing works. Nevertheless it would be nice to have fnord.books or even fnordisawanker.books so I could put it on a business card and otherwise pretend to be part of the wired generation. Would I pay $100 for that? You betcha. Would I pay $3000? Ummm, no. OK, now multipy $100 by the number of online booksellers, then multiply that by those who sell other stuff online (eg: .poultry for those who sell chickens), and then tell me again how there is no demand. -g
