Your argument is logically flawed Peter. Just because "there are companies that want to run them" does not mean that there is consumer demand for more TLDs at all. In fact the rather modest performance of .info, .biz and to a greater extent .name seems to suggest that there is little real demand for more TLDs outside of the usual suspects - TM holders, speculators, cybersquatters etc.
Just because it can be done doesn't mean it should. I don't believe any new TLDs should be considered until there is a demonstrable demand among business & consumers (ie excluding the usual suspects). I've not seen any research that suggests that there is and plenty that suggests that there isn't. The only exception that I'm aware of is .eu although it is questionable whether there is real demand for that space either.
