"ICANN Accredited" Really Means: "You had the $25,000.00 Accredation Fee, you're approved! What? No, there is no book of rules, just make them up as you go, we'll iron out the bugs later. Thanks for the check, see you around the same time next year, to collect your renewal dues."

    Just like a protection racket.

Comment from Richard Henderson about Directi
    by Anonymous on Wednesday July 17 2002, @05:48PM (#7957)
I feel Directi should be given an opportunity to explain, in this case. The people who bid on names through Directi are paying for those names. There is a payment process and it's working. The names are not being held back by Directi.

I think the rather unwise "BID" messages on the WHOIS details were put there when the names were submitted, at which time Directi had planned to carry on bidding after the registrations were announced.

However, there was outcry (for example in the ICANN public forum) and Bhavin T accepted the prevalent view and agreed to end the auctions BEFORE registrations were announced. At that point, the WHOIS "bid" messages became irrelevant.

I have been a vociferous critic of ICANN, Registry and Registrar malpractice over the past 12 months, but in this case I take the view that it was ICANN and Afilias who were responsible. They were WARNED that there would be a re-run of the .biz2B abuses, with Registrars submitting lists for themselves or selling entire lists to a favoured client.

You have only to look at the mini-list submitted by Signature, where all 10 .biz names went to their own Business Partner, Joshua Blacker. Once again in LR2, Signature Domains submitted a mini-list, securing just 3 names - but WHAT names!

Or compare the identical control of the BondiLLC list by Marco Publishing Corporation (Marc Ostrovsky if I'm not mistaken) - in both LR2 and .biz2B he controlled the list.

Or Lin ZanSong with Xin Net Corp.

Or why did Francis Piet of Nordnet make it so expensive for applicants, demanding 10 year registrations... then he took his own short list, added his own applications, and got the majority of good names for himself, with just 2 year registrations. One rule for the customers, one for himself? I may be mistaken about this, but check the WHOIS for yourself.

So I warned Dan Halloran in advance, that what happened in .biz2B would be repeated in LR2 unless ICANN intervened. I issued a public warning in early April and I sent Dan Halloran a mail on May 12th (and about six times again after that).

68 days later he still hasn't acknowledged my mail or responded to my concerns. And now LR2 has come and passed.

ICANN knew the problems. But they chose to do nothing.

In my view it is not Directi but ICANN and Afilias who should be criticised for LR2. It is typical that Afilias Director Moshe Fogel gained domains.info by applying for himself using a short list.

And yet it was the Afilias Board and Executive who created the problem in the first place!

As Robert Connelly of PSI-Japan said, when he resigned from the Afilias Board in protest at the dereliction of Landrush1 customers - it has been an "Abomination".

And ICANN has presided over it all.

I hope Nancy Victory considers these things very carefully when she reviews the MoU this autumn.

    Richard Henderson

Yes, It's True, Directi Warehousing .INFO Domains
    by Anonymous on Friday July 26 2002, @10:58AM (#8105)
So what? Remember, the Internet, domain names, and various associates business practices reflect worldwide morals and scruples.

Hey man, when you're in Mumbai, which is widely considered the asshole of India, you'll do anything to get the f-ck out. You know, that's where you're likely to see people shitting right into the gutter, 'cause there aren't any toilets in many places. You know, that's where they burn your body out in the open air, after you die ... hmmmmmm ... what's for lunch? You know, that's where lots of people walk around looking like they are missing a few chromosomes, from all the in-breeding.

So who's really surprised Directi is domain name warehousing? What's the big deal? He's just another speculator, a real hungrier-than-average speculator. That's okay, I can go to the corner store and get toilet paper anytime I want. I even have access to a toilet in which I shit. God bless the USA!
