    I don't know what makes you say that Peter. ICANN has put .eu inclusion in the root on the fast track. And it is the EU itself that has been announcing that .eu is coming real soon now for a few years, whilst it meanders through a byzantine maze of its own making. -g

    I have to disagree. Your point that it's been coming real soon now for a few years is rather telling. Of course ICANN is going to smile and nod at the EU while they take years to figure things out. Once they do, ICANN will then drag feet and claim that it's the US that's holding things up (which it will be).

    Additionally, it can be argued that .EU is not a ccTLD, but an siTLD (that's Special Interest TLD, a term that I've just coined, thank you). If it is added before the root is opened to the large number of applicants already waiting, I rather think that there would be a problem. Most of those applicants are constituents of United States elected representatives, if nothing else.
