Life may be better if the people in Switzerland
(WIPO) just worried about the net in Switzerland.
WIPO is a private company in Switzerland, just
like ICANN is a private company in California.
The Chinese seem to have a better grasp of the
way the net works than the Swiss. In other words,
connect and mind one's own business.
Why is the USA cowed by WIPO (and the WTO) ?
NSI/Verisign found it convienant to off-load some
of the bad PR of .COM disputes on to the ISOC
(also Swiss presence) and WIPO. The Swiss gladly
take the fees for being the arbitrators. People in
the USA are fooled into thinking that WIPO is
some special world/universe agency, when in fact,
they are just another private Swiss company
making money minding other people's business.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is an international organization dedicated to helping to ensure that the rights of creators and owners of intellectual property are protected worldwide and that inventors and authors are, thus, recognized and rewarded for their ingenuity. This international protection acts as a spur to human creativity, pushing forward the boundaries of science and technology and enriching the world of literature and the arts. By providing a stable environment for the marketing of intellectual property products, it also oils the wheels of international trade.
