As a Brit (non-lawyer) living in the US, I can tell you that UK/EU consumer protection law appears to be way more balanced in favor of the consumer than Stateside. Either that, or the US has way more con-artists than over the pond.

I was able to bring up web pages from .usa sites without any changes to my browsers (Konqueror and Internet Explorer 6). Of course, that's probably because I use one of the inclusive root systems.
% telnet map.usa 80

I am having visions of an unrelated (I hope) company that made bold promises. Remember XTNS?
Anyway, lets take a look at:
http://www.dotusa.com/faq.phtml
For each .usa domain name registered there is an annual fee of $59 [Fifty Nine Bucks! - are you kidding?]
As soon as you register a .usa domain name, it is stored on a Network of Global DNS servers until activation in 2002 [Is this because the technology to resolve these "domains" doesnt exist now? Are we simply being sold a promise? Like I said, we have seen this before]
Why not pay $10.00 for a .info, .biz or .com that works now? If you want to be patriotic, spend that $10.00 with an American registrar and donate the $49.00 you saved to your favorite charity or use it to support our military men and women.

This sounds like a scam to me. .USA is not based in the USA, it is not supported by ICANN, requires a browser plug in (which means it will never become fully accepted like the new tlds .info & .biz) and is more worthless than some cctld names.
Save your money on extensions that work.

And now I'm receiving SPAMvertising from dotusa trying to sell their non-domains.
What a class operation.

Looks like the same people in the UK who launched the fake ".sex" registry. Same promises, same price per name per annum.
