    The difference is that you don't have the experience and infrastrucure that IOD does. But you could buy that.

    What you can't buy is their standing.

    Have a happy with the .sex TLD. As far as .web goes, there should be no doubt to anyone with even a meager IQ that Image Online Design was by far the most capable applicant during the first round. So, no, it takes more than a cool TLD to warrant sane people investing in your product. It takes expertise.

    Prove that they can run a full-scale registry. In time, your beloved new.net will still have 50% visibility, and .web will be in the main root.
