I'm not aware of anything in the coverage suggesting that Verisign will be doing that. Near as I can tell, they're just providing the sales channel; they're not making the names resolve. As the next commenter states, such a step would transform RealNames from a DNS overlay to a true alternate root -- a shift much bigger than anything apparently happening here.

Certainly anything happening here so far, but... they do suggest a wider use than via only Internet Explorer. My suggestion would be one way to do it. It also wouldn't technically be an alt-root, it would still resolve via .com, it would just be a more integrated DNS overlay than at present. For now, I agree that VeriSign is just acting as a reseller, but I can well imagine them thinking along these lines and implementing it if they see money to be made. Unlike Grumpy's results, the RealNames examples he gives do work properly for me in IE 5.5. There was mention of an update that fixed the problem a week or two ago. -g
