Subsequent to the Board's adoption of this mission statement, the GAC recommended further refining the mission statement with respect to policy development to read "reasonably and appropriately related to its technical functions." The ERC sought comment on the GAC proposal, and based on the comments received, has indicated that it will recommend the following revision for the Board's consideration at the October 2002 meeting: "Coordinates policy-development reasonably and appropriately related to these technical functions." Second Interim Implementation Report, at 3. It is the Department's understanding that the ERC has called for additional public comment on the proposed GAC revised mission statement before presentation to the ICANN Board for consideration at its October 2002 meeting.
