George, you mean you have 50,000 domain names? Wow, an increase with 42 cents will really hurt, wouldn't it? ;-)

Your math is way off (notice the % sign, which means you divide by 100) --- 0.001% of 50,000,000 = 0.00001 x 50,000,000 = 500 domains (and I also used the words "less than", so 500 gives you an upper bound). I'm not hurt much personally, but the domain industry as a whole is hurt to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars when you discount the total to today. That's why folks oppose this giveaway -- they wouldn't have won anything close to this in a case against ICANN.
Remember, the increase would be 7% in the FIRST year, so $6.42 is not the final price. Using the rule of 72, prices would double every 10 to 15 years (depending on whether you think VeriSign will find a way to get the 7% in the 2 out of every 6 years that they have to "justify it". So, prices would go to $12, then $24, then $48, then $96/yr, and so on.
There are folks who own 100,000+ domains, and those who own 1 domain. We can all be against bad ICANN decisions.
It seems the only folks FOR the ICANN-VeriSign decision are bad at math, or have other agendas. :-P
