I made my own sardonic comments earlier. The RIR's have come into a great deal of flak (including a bit generated by me) for controlling the numbers without which all those cool names wouldn't work. I take it all back, I'd far rather they make the decisions than ICANN. -g

If you are powerful ICANN pays attention, if you are not they don't. Well, duh. :-)

M. Stuart Lynn (of course it's not him writing it, he's just the well-paid signatory) responds in the same way ICANN did with ICP-3:Hello world. Without anyone requesting that we do so, and without any prior notice or input, we have unilaterally misconstrued and rewritten existing policy. If you don't like it you are free to go through our existing procedures to attempt to change it. If successful after a few years of jumping through hoops it will ultimately be ignored or reversed by the puppet BoD we have in place. Thank you for playing as it gives us the sheen of participation. That is all. -g

Earlier this year ICANN was in danger of financially going under. Didn't the RIRs cough up a very thick wad of cash, no strings attached, to keep ICANN afloat? ICANN dances to the tune of the cash register.
