    Verisign will be pulling in over a billion by 2012

    "growth rate of the .COM zone file and the expected escalation of .COM registry-level prices in the proposed new contracts, Verisign will be pulling in over a billion annually (that's $1,150,641,387.77, to be precise) by the year 2012."

    If anyone thinks the technology will still be the
    same in 2012, or more importantly, the customer
    base, they really need to get a clue.

    Also, what happens when various States and/or
    Countries decide to run their own .COM proxy
    servers ? and take part or all of that revenue ?
    What happens when walled-gardens run their own
    flavor of .COM ?

    As the last TLD and the only TLD, .COM becomes
    the de-facto root. Just like WWW, it can be
    dropped, although it has come to mean "an
    Internet brand". Everyone has a .COM, .BIZ is
    dead, Vinton Cerf says .INFO is broken (and now
    you see why, that would be a threat to Google). .NET is obscur, .ORG confuses people and that
    more or less covers the diverse name-space.

    Welcome to the walled garden .COM Internet.
    Better switch to ICANNWATCH.COM and join the
    crowd. The tragedy of the commons, of COMmons.

    The ICANN Community Has ICANN's Script Written

    The new .com registry agreement allows VeriSign to
    icrease their fees by 7% per annum.

    2006 -- $6.00
    2007 -- $6.42
    2008 -- $6.87
    2009 -- $7.35
    2010 -- $7.86
    2011 -- $8.42
    2012 -- $9.00

    Over seven years the fees will have increased by 50%.
    Registrars will pass along the fee increase to
    registrants using standard markup considerations. A
    $35 .com domain will come to be marketed at over $50
    within the coming years.

    Too bad for us. We still have no one representing our
    registrant interests within ICANN. One can only
    expect the inevitable:

    Whereas, ICANN staff has spent several months engaged
    in discussions with VeriSign concerning appropriate
    revisions that could be made to the .com agreement.

    Whereas, results of the negotiations have been posted
    to the ICANN website.

    Whereas, these discussions have led to a proposed
    agreement between VeriSign and ICANN on a new .com
    Registry Agreement, as posted on the ICANN website for
    public comment.

    Whereas, a public comment forum on the proposed
    amendment was opened on... and closed on... 2005.

    Whereas, the Board has reviewed and considered the
    comments that were submitted to the public comment
    forum.

    Whereas, the Board has determined that entering the
    proposed amendment would be in the best interests of
    ICANN and the Internet community.

    Resolved (05.___) the Board authorizes the President
    and the General Counsel to enter the proposed .com
    Registry Agreement, and to take such actions as
    appropriate to implement the agreement.

    What is the Name GOOGLE.COM Worth ???

    What is the Name GOOGLE.COM Worth ???

    OK, in the next version of Windblows, a company
    on the record of saying it will bury Google,
    has decided that .COM owners have to pay the
    market-value for their names to resolve.

    What should Vinton Cerf's Google.COM pay to
    have that name resolved in various software-based
    systems ?

    What should *XXX.COM name owners pay to be
    resolved in new cable-TV-like boxes ?

    What is interesting is that the name Verisign.COM
    will probably slip thru without a charge. No
    one seems to care. The consumers have never
    heard of that name.

    There is now too much content, vendors can pick
    and choose, just like cable TV franchises.
    How much will EACH of the .COM owners pay for
    eye-balls ? for eye-balls with money ? for
    U.S. eye-balls ? for pre-qualified U.S. eye-balls
    with money ? and with band-width to support
    the service being sold
