easyGroup have become a lot calmer since the time of that article (4 years ago), they have been much more selective in the registrants they go after.
If PRSS helps root out more squatters what is the problem?
Nominet has long been regarded as the best run NICs, it is run by it's (around 4000) members well and fairly. If you search theRegister.co.uk some more you'll find several articles praising the Nominet dispute system, it is generally seen as being much more fair than the UDRP.
