Veri$lime controls Afilias so Afilias isn't competition and only enters into any bidding for .net to make it look like it was a competitive process. .net should be awarded to a different company (like Neulevel or Register.com or anyone else other than Verisign).
Theres no need to wait until 2006 - .info should be taken away from Afilias right now as they have not lived up to any part of the registry agreement.
The real problem is that Veri$lime controls ICANN behind the scenes and all of ICANN's action are just a dog and pony show for their masters so the rest of us are duped while Veri$lime keeps raking in their millions without any real competition.
