Should ISOC / ICANN Start a Patent Division ?
Since ICANN and the ISOC seem determined to reproduce the entire U.S. Government, along with all of the taxes, maybe the next step will be the equivalent of a Patent Office?
Americans currently work about half of the year to support the U.S. Government. With a duplication of all services by ISOC and ICANN, the other half of the year can now be spent supporting the ISOC, ICANN and the RIRs as well as the up and coming NRO and of course the IETF.
From one of the .ORG funded IETF consultants: http://www1.ietf.org/mail-archive/web/ietf/current /msg33042.html "if people want to make any size contribution to the IETF and there are no strings attached, we shouldn't be so proud as to say no."
