ICANN is a Fiction and a Comedy
It does look like Verisign plans to continue supporting the charade with their .NET rebid players now appearing on the field. This obviously indicates one of two things:
1. Verisign has already been assured by the insiders that they will "win" the .NET rebid if they do not object to ICANN taxing them at the rate of 75 cents per transaction on $6.00 transactions. That is a 12.5% tax which is viewed as typical for government taxation of corporations.
2. If by some fluck Verisign is not declared the "winner" (not likely), then Verisign can obviously play two key cards. One is that the .NET servers can not be pulled apart from the .COM servers because they use the same IP addresses. The second ace in the hole that Verisign has is that they will be the .NET operator for the Next Generation Internet which ICANN does not regulate (control).
Either way, Verisign wins. Surprise, surprise. Only fools will toss $500,000 down the drain to bet against them. ICANN will of course gladly soak up that $500,000 with more travel and parties for UN A-List people.
