There is a reason that .WEB wasn't approved, and it has nothing to do with the fact that IOD had been running it. That reason is that it would have created real competition for .COM, and that was something that Verisign doesn't want.
As much as I respect pioneers, when they have an idea that is _too_good_, those already in place will oppose it.
