Yes, that is why "weapons-grade routers" are being developed. You obviously will never see the specs in an ISOC-IETF forum.
That is also why TLD **production servers** will evolve beyond the toy proof-of-concept servers deployed as part of the ICANN market-trials.
It does not matter where the .NET rebid goes for the existing proof-of-concept operations, major vendors (like Verisign) will likely attempt to be the operator for the production .NET servers.
It is not clear Verisign has much experience placing satellites in orbit, with servers. That of course will be a minimum requirement to make sure the database is secure, in case planet .EARTH implodes.
