Bruce Beckwith — Vice President Of Operations

Bruce Beckwith joined PIR in December 2002 as the newly formed organization’s first full time staff member, in the role of Vice President of Operations. A seasoned executive, most recently specializing in the domain name space of the high-technology industry, he is responsible for operational and marketing disciplines at the registry.

Beckwith’s extensive knowledge and strong management and leadership experience in the wireless and software industries made his transition to the domain name sector an easy and natural one. Joining Network Solutions in 1997, he: implemented the first Quality Assurance function for the world’s largest combined registry/registrar; managed and promoted the channel program for resellers; acted as spokesperson for all policy matters for the distinct registrar business unit; and, worked closely with ICANN’s staff on contract and compliance matters. When Network Solutions merged with VeriSign in 2000, he continued to develop policy and pursue implementation strategies for the combined corporation.

In July 2000, Beckwith lent his “big picture” approach to the industry as he organized and led the first meeting of ICANN accredited registrars to discuss the possibility of a consortium to bid on a new TLD, which became the successful genesis of the Afilias registry, a winning bidder in the November 2000 ICANN decision to implement additional TLDs. As the representative of the largest registrar member of Afilias, Beckwith devoted significant resources and personal effort to insuring that Afilias’ launch of the .info TLD was successful for the Internet.

Beckwith’s responsibilities now include management of the relationship with Afilias Limited, PIR’s registry services partner, as well as developing operational policies, registrar relationship management, legal strategy advice to PIR’s outside counsel, oversight of marketing strategies, and, media relations. Mr. Beckwith has been acknowledged as a subject matter expert on several panels relating to ICANN policies and Internet industry issues.
