It sure is a shame moderation doesn't work around here. I've got the points right now, but as usual there's no [MODERATE] button at the bottom of the page, so there is nothing I can do to help filter out the noise.

During my term on ICANN's board (which ended 11 months ago) I never once heard any mention of any long term or strategic plan.
During the recent meetings at the ITU and UN I received the distinct impression that many of participants in those meetings considered ICANN to be a disposable and transitory entity that would be replaced or re-defined as the broader concepts of internet governance were formed.
In those meetings there was a strong underlying note of creating small, highly focused structures to resolve clearly articulated problems rather than having a one-size-fits-all-and-does-all kind of thing such as ICANN.
In other words, much of ICANN's fate is not in ICANN's hands.
