Given the very low number of comments, it's pretty evident that these TLDs lack public opposition.

ICANN's former president led ICANN into having a round of TLD applicatons that permitted only "sponsored" TLDs. Given that the typical sponsor a) does not understand internet technology, b) is self-interested, and c) tends to have very little foresight it is quite understandable that these proposals are generally lame and will prove of no value to the community of internet users.
ICANN's former president did understand one thing about sponsored TLDs - and that is that sponsors can write checks to ICANN so that ICANN can hire more staff to build ever larger org charts.
If, as ICANN's chairman likes to say, "the internet is for everyone", then why does ICANN continue to obsess on granting an amazing few new TLDs that have fixed ICANN-backed imposed semantics and ICANN-backed restricted uses?
It certainly does seem that ICANN is busy selling the internet to those with closed minds and open wallets.
There is no grand experiment or testbed going on here, there is merely restraint of trade and obliteration of technical potential.
