.Web is not a "new registry service," it is a "new registry." Those are two very different things.
I can tell you right now that IOD has no intention of introducing a wildcard into the .Web zone, either now, or when we're approved by ICANN.
What Verisign is doing goes contrary to contracts between them and ICANN as well as them and the registrars. Of course, I'm not a lawyer (nor do I play one on TV), but from both my non-legal understanding and the advice of those who do understand the legal aspects, this is the key issue.
I suppose we shall agree to disagree and wait and see.
