Say what, indeed. That wonderful Postel-era taxonomy you love led to a lopsided name space, with 75% of all registrations in one TLD. Perhaps you believe that a second-level taxonomy should be imposed on all .com registrants, in order to save us from confusion? Funny, I don't feel confused about web sites or domain names under .com or any TLD, I just find them on Google or see them printed or advertised and remember them, or save them as a favorite when I use them.
Do we need the government to organize magazine racks? Do we need it to tell us what names books should have? No, sir, ICANN should not do this and the market should.

Well, as I said, the magic of the free market at MdR2k didn't lead to anything approaching logic. If there is no logical taxonomy to TLDs I see no reason to have any new ones added. As you say yourself, Google or memory work fine. And I don't think a taxonomy should be imposed on sLDs, I can't see where anything I've said would lead you to that idea. -g
