    I agree the internal procedures of the nominating committee will be key.

    Will the committee try to select 8 board members by consensus - ie 8 members that everyone is happy with, or will they have formal votes?

    If they go the consensus model then there might be deals along the lines of we'll put one IP lawyer on but balance that with a civil rights background person. Having observed ICANN to date I will be surprised if deals are not part of the process.

    A formal voting system would hopefully be a preferential one rather than first past the post as it makes it harder for bloc voting and also gives candidates with minority support a better chance of getting elected once preferences are re-allocated.

    I do not believe it is intended the Nom Com ever meets in person so they will be quite reliant on their staff support and board appointed chair. It will be useful if their internal procedures are indeed publicised once formulated.
