I don't buy the "public property" approach. Everyone, every day takes advantage of "public" things, like drinking water from public utilities or putting their children into public schools.
Can you imagine if parents had to publish the names, addresses, and phone numbers of their children into a totally open, web-based book, in order to send their children to public schools? To my mind that is what is happening here.
I have not seen enough demonstration that the operational needs of the Internet or the desires of trademark people have enought weight to counterbalance the public interest in perserving their privacy (and protecting themselves and children from unwanted intrusions, or worse.)
