Stability? In Afilias? This, the company that was down more than it was up in their first 2 weeks of operation? Who has had what can only be described as a complete fiasco in its sunrise and landrush periods?
Using Afilias as a model of a stable and technically competent registry is beyond believable.

Afilias is an "experienced" registry. ICANN chose a "worst case scenario" approach. Absent of being able to produce necessary technical specifications that would have opened the field to competing applicants without gTLD experience, it was forced (or chose) to go the safest route where, should the re-delegation of .org run into technical problems, it can point to a reasonable and conservative decision - one where the delegated party had "experience". That's all that mattered as far as the definition of "stability" was concerned for .org....and this definition will change again depending upon the circumstances.
