Interesting. I agree with the diagnosis.
But how did ICANN get control of IANA? It seems to me that it did so with the active participation and approval of the IAB. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

the article can unfortunately be read in a couple of ways.
I don't think that the IANA function that ICANN runs for the IETF needs to be moved at the moment. (This function does NOT include addresses and TLDs).
But there have been cases where people have accused ICANN of interfering with the IETF IANA function, or the DoC of having "supreme control" of the IETF IANA function. These cases irritate me.
