 Omission on New ICANN Website Speaks Volumes

The front page of ICANN's new website contains a link to every GNSO constituency. Er, except one. The Noncommercial Users Constituency, although equal in status to Business Users, ISPs, Intellectual Property owners, Registries, and Registrars in the Generic Names Supporting Organization, is not there.
ICANN has often been criticized as responding only to business interests. This latest gaffe only underscores the problem.
NCUC Chair Milton Mueller sent a sharp letter to ICANN President Paul Twomey and the GNSO Secretariat asking for immediate rectification of the error Saturday. It will be interesting to see what explanations are forthcoming and how quickly the mistake is fixed.

Link to the NCUC was, for reasons unknown, tucked away under "Resources for Individual Internet Users." Whoever did this reveals either a deliberate intention to discourage public awareness of NCUC or an incredible ignorance of ICANN's GNSO. Individuals are not eligible to join the NCUC, which is limited by its charter to representation of noncommercial organizations. There can, therefore, be no rationale for grouping NCUC under that link.

I was under the impression ICANN created a special "committee" just for Internet users. They even put their brains together to come up with what they deemed, "a super cool name." The At-Large Advisory Committee. While the committee has formed excellent opinions on behalf of individual Internet users, it has no voting powers and its only representation on the ICANN Board is an ex-officio liaison whose only privilege is the ability to hear closed-door meetings -- which really should be open and webcast in the first place.
Dr. Mueller did say only non-commercial organization representatives can join the NCUC constituency. Well, let's form the Non-Commercial Individual Internet Users Corporation, a non-profit, true public benefit corporation where it is entirely free and open to become members. Then, wouldn't we meet the criteria as members of the organization to join the GNSO NCUC?
