GNSO 1st Round Vote Should Be Done Now
posted by michael on Friday June 16 2006, @08:49AM
The GNSO is choosing someone for the remaining term of the open Board seat vacated by Michael Palage. Only members of the GNSO Council get to vote. According to the GNSO Elections procedures page, on June 15, 18:00 UTC, the GNSO Secretariat announces results of
first-round ballot--on a secret mailing list.
That was supposed to be 24 hours ago, and so far there has been no public word as to the results.
Which means either it's going to a run-off between two candidates, or it's the usual routine of not telling the public. As the GNSO tends to run better than many other parts of the ICANN shop, I'm going to take a risk and bet it's run-off. Although exactly why we should be reduced to guessing ...

A reader points me to this link [icann.org] in which all is revealed:The results of the first round of voting for the ICANN Board seat # 14 are:

21 Ballots received and a total of 27 votes cast.

procedure:
http://gnso.icann.org/elections/election-procedure s-01jun06.htm [icann.org]
Rita Rodin and Philip Sheppard will appear on the ballot in the second
round.
Michael Geist is eliminated because he received the lowest non-zero number
of votes.
The timelines are as follows for the second round of voting:
June 15, 18:00 UTC - Second-round ballot distributed by secretariat June 21,
15:00 UTC - All ballots from second round must be returned to secretariat
