We Never Seem to Learn, Do We?
posted by michael on Saturday April 02 2005, @11:14AM
Paul Vixie, commenting on the Nanog list about the consultant's report in the .net rebid, can it BE? is this game RIGGED? what a SHOCKING SURPRISE! ("not.")
based strictly on the choice of telcordia as the evaluator, the .NET bid appears to have just been ICANN's way of earning USD $800K extra this year. (minus the fee paid to telcordia, that is.)
(i was mostly done being bitter about the way .ORG was handled, until someone showed me that PIR had more or less gone out of existence... i really expected this to take a little longer, just for appearance' sake.)
It's hard to know what's harder to believe: that ICANN keeps pulling the same stunts over and over, or that no one is doing anything about it. It's (almost) enough to make WSIS look good.

Stories like this need to be given top priority and stay at the top of the page on this site. What ends up happening is other relatively minor stories get posted soon after and important ones like this one end up not being viewed by users. Also, like has already happened here with this story, ICANN/Verisign supporters sabotage the story by posting anonymously about side issues so the replies to the story 'die out'.
Because of the above, this site is not really being effective in its mission as it should be.
