ICANN Will Contribute $$ to Working Group Secretariat
posted by Mueller on Tuesday December 21 2004, @07:08AM
In an announcement made yesterday, ICANN's Board has agreed to contribute US$ 100,000 to the Secretariat of the UN Secretary-General's Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG). The Secretariat, directed by Swiss diplomat Markus Kummer, needs funds and until now has not had much success in raising it from the wealthier Western governments. The government of Switzerland has contributed most of the WGIG budget. Politically speaking, the move is a sensible one for ICANN, demonstrating its good faith and winning good will from the participants in the process.
