The Big Picture ICANN Studienkreis meeting
posted by Mueller on Tuesday August 24 2004, @02:12PM

Wolfgang Kleinwaechter writes "The 5th meeting of the ICANN Studienkreis will be held in Aarhus, Denmark, September 17 - 18, 2004.

This year's meeting is titled "ICANN in the new WSIS Environment: On the Eve of New Partnerships?" The draft programme is posted at www.icann-studienkreis.net.

The meeting will bring together experts from business, technology, academia, government, civil society and the media. The meeting is open and there is no conference fee. Electronic registration is possible under www.icann-studienkreis.net.

The ICANN Studienkreis is an informal and open network which organizes an annual conference. Previous conferences took place in Leipzig (2000), Zürich(2001), Moscow (2001), Salzburg (2002) and Berlin (2003). Speakers included Vint Cerf and Esther Dyson. Originally it was desigend to give the German speaking Internet Community a place for discussion of issues around Internet Governance. Launched in 1999, it was supported until 2004 by the three ccTLDs for Germany (DENIC / .de), Switzerland (SWITCH/.ch) and Austria (nic.at). This year it became "internationalized" and is now supported by three gTLDs (.com/VeriSign, .info/Afilias and .org/PIR).

The Aarhus Conference gives a good opportunity to prepare the informal WGIG Geneva consultation, which will start immeditiately after the Studienkreis meeting.

Please check the website for an update of the programme. If you have questions contact
    Wolfgang Kleinwächter at wolfgang@imv.au.dk"
