    jberryhill writes "One thing I like about the domain registration business is that it is always acceptable to sell things that you don't have. For example, RegistryPro has collected a pile of cash for defensive registrations of .pro domains which may, or may not, actually be available for registration at some time in the future.

    Today's object lesson in selling things that aren't quite available yet is the "pre-ordering" of Wait-List-Service subscriptions, announced here.

    Now, this is beautiful. You can "pre-order" the right to "backorder" a domain name which isn't available yet, but "might" be available some time in the future. What an opportunity to get, um, something, maybe."
