ICANN Staff and Structure Touton Resigns
posted by michael on Friday May 23 2003, @06:58AM

dmehus writes "Louis Touton, ICANN Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary, announced he will be resigning his positions at the Marina del Rey, Calif. based corporation at the end of June. In the announcement, it notes that Touton was ICANN's first employee, signing on with the company in 1999."

"Mr. Touton said of his departure, "After almost four years with ICANN, I feel the organization has achieved the stability and global recognition that will allow it to fulfil its mission. It now has the appropriate resources in place. The reform process is nearly concluded. I feel that I have accomplished what I set out to do."

Additionally, ICANN commenced a new organizational structure. Dr. Twomey, President and C.E.O. of ICANN, announced the creation of two new positions to replace the ones held by Mr. Touton. The first role is that of General Counsel to ICANN, and the second will be the Vice President of Business Operations. ICANN is currently seeking two qualified people to fill those positions.

So, let the rumour mill begin its perpetual churning. Was this a resignation of his own accord, or was he forced out?"

    I initially misjudged Louis.

But after having worked with, argued with, and fought with Louis for a couple of years I have come to respect him.

Louis Touton deserves a real "thanks" for his work - he is one of the hardest working people I have ever met -, for his humor, and for his constructive intent.
