Fake .gov Site's Registration Taken Down
posted by michael on Wednesday February 05 2003, @04:44AM
"In a move that raises questions about the security of governmental domains, the Bush administration has pulled the plug on a .gov Web site pending an investigation into the authenticity of the organization that controlled it," writes Declan McCullagh at C|Net's News.com, under the headline Feds pull suspicious .gov site. Seems one Robert L. Taylor III registered aonn.gov, and put up a web page claiming to be the Access One Network Northwest (AONN), a (non-existent (?)) cyberwarfare unit.

Sounds a little like your name here .mil... although .gov doesn't seem as wide open as did .mil, which means the hack was either an inside job, or at least took more effort. We "exploited a security hole in the bureaucracy" Mr. Taylor is quoted as saying.
