ITU Extends Embrace to ccTLDs
posted by michael on Wednesday November 27 2002, @01:40AM
In what seems to be part of its continuing quest to be very, very helpful to participants in the ICANN process, and not-so-incidentally make a certain Californian organization look expendable, the ITU is planning a "Workshop on Member States' Experiences with ccTLDs" to be held in Geneva on March 3-4, 2003. The meetings will be free and open to the public.

The official meeting purpose is "is to begin to work with Member States and Sector Members, recognizing the activities of other appropriate entities, to review Member States' ccTLD and other related experiences"; but despite the meeting title and this statement, the real object seems to be to make friends with (and organize?) the ccTLDs, as the meeting is being co-chaired by Willie Black of Nominet, UK (who is also the Chairman of CENTR), and pariticipation is specifically directed to "ccTLD operators" although also open to "any other interested parties." The announcment of this admirably open meeting contemplates written pre-meeting contributions by participants (which will be posted online, probably at this page or this one) and also remote participation (advance registration requested), which might be fun...
