f.root-servers.net, run by Paul Vixie (ISC, California) will spread its root-services over Asia by means yet undisclosed. There is just a press release.
Neither of these two texts even mentions ICANN. Was ICANN (or IANA? or DoC?) consulted? Do they know about it?
Is this the material we should send comments about to the new email address that ICANN so proudly announced?
Or is this an indication, that those who actually run the root (and own in part the IP addresses that are enshrined in the hints file on so many servers and thus constitute power over the root) don't care to listen any longer to ICANN?
By the way, Jun Murai, the chair of the ICANN Root Server Committee, recently joined the Board of ISC, which runs, as said, f.root. The press release about this event (issued one day after the one about f.root), does mention some other things Dr. Murai does. Not, however, the Root Server Committee, nor the fact, that he is on the ICANN Board.
I am flummoxed.
Oh, and Murai is also Chair of WIDE, which runs m.root in Tokyo. Any news from Stockholm?
