Country-Code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs) .ie Domain Registry Suspends CEO
posted by michael on Wednesday October 02 2002, @08:51AM

ectoraige writes "According to ElectricNews.net, the IEDR have suspended Mike Fagan, it's CEO as of this afternoon. Apparently auditors, accompanied by police, called to the offices seeking financial records of the not-for-profit company."

Just yesterday, Prof J Scanlan, the company's chairman dismissed claims that Fagan had been suspended, and Fagan himself stated that the only way he would be leave the IEDR was "in a wooden box or with cheque for EUR1 million."

    Apparently he was mistaken.

The IEDR took over running of the .ie domain in 2000, but AFAIK, the paperwork with ICANN hasn't gone through yet, and it is still 'officially' delegated to University College Dublin.

Concerns regarding .ie were reported here on ICANNWatch last June. And if it isn't already dead, perhaps this will put a crimp in .ie's plan to run .eu. The article points out many incestuous relationships, something we've seen somewhere before, wish the visit of independent auditors accompanied by police would happen one of these days in MdR. -g
